Nyege Nyege Day Party

Nyege Nyege Collective are leading their afro-galactic dance energy into the light for a free day party.

Founded in 2014, the annual Nyege Nyege Festival, held in Jinja, Uganda has become a seminal space for afro-galactic electronic music and queer expression. They’re doing a Night Trade residency in the first week of the festival and on Saturday 7 June they’re co-ordinating with Day Tripper to put on a free day party in Howey Place.

Old Plates DJs will be on early, warming up the lane before afternoon sets from Kampire, a Ugandan artist known for her bass-heavy selections, Lady Hash, a pioneering DJ who’s been introducing Afro-house and Amapiano to Ethiopian dance floors, DJ Travella and dancer/vocalist Hemedi who represent a new wave of Singeli producers driving Tanzania's breakneck dance sounds. Then MC Yallah a Kenyan rapper based in Uganda with a big energy and poetic flow, will take us into the night shift.
