Check out Rose Chong’s self-portrait and archival costume exhibition. Art that’s gleefully devoid of meaning.

Rose Chong spent about two decades in the film industry costuming, back in the golden days of the mini-series. There’d often be plenty of costumes leftover from shoots and Rose would salvage big glittering piles of them, eventually setting up her iconic costume hire shop on Gertrude Street in Fitzroy. It's been there delighting partygoers and filmmakers since 1979. Her motto is “walk in as yourself and walk out as someone else entirely.”

The pandemic dried up any need for theatrical costumes for a time. So, Rose funnelled her energies into a new persona—an artist known as ARSEY. See what happens when her flair for transformation is redirected into weird and wonderful low-brow art, as she opens her debut exhibition at Night Trade.
