LEGENDS (Of the Golden Arches) Joe Paradise Lui and Merlynn Tong react in fear to a god

LEGENDS (of the Golden Arches)

  • $59 — $69

Two emerging playwrights take us on a bogus adventure through the golden arches and into Chinese hell.

Merlynn and Joe hold a vigil for their dead grandfathers. Merlynn wants to preserve the rites of her forebears. Joe thinks it’s a load of superstition. They’re old friends who don’t mind a fiery debate. But, as the night wears on, things get a little overheated, and the Lords of the 18 levels of hell decide to step in. Can their friendship survive the fall? Will this funeral be the death of them?

Sometimes the only way through is down.

LEGENDS is a sharp two-hander that plunges into the Chinese underworld to test the meaning of friendship and the bonds of tradition. Co-created by Joe Paradise Lui and Merlynn Tong (Golden Blood), it’s a heart-filled buddy comedy that bends reality and serves extra pickles.

The script is razor-sharp, oscillating between laugh-out-loud moments and deep introspection. Lui and Tong’s chemistry on stage is electric.
