MASTERCLASS : Far From The Norm Dance Workshop

A rare chance to learn movement from Far From The Norm—the internationally revered makers of hip hop dance theatre who are bringing BLKDOG to RISING.

Far From The Norm is a London-based dance theatre company that’s been challenging perceptions of hip hop since 2009. Director Botis Seva is bringing his Olivier Award-winning piece BLKDOG to Naarm and taking the time to put on this specially curated workshop, designed for intermediate and advanced dancers.

At age 19 Botis founded Far From the Norm in a Dagenham youth club. His choreographic voice is rooted in hip hop dance theatre but inspired by a freeform approach. The company’s dancers bring a range of styles from krump to popping and house—and push them into new places with performances that capture personal stories while inviting debate on social issues.

In the session—led by Botis and fellow Far From The Norm artist Joshua
Shanny Wynter—you’ll be introduced to the company’s signature style and pushed to your limits. Botis and Joshua will help you navigate a dynamic blend of dance styles with a focus on physical exercises, groove, improvisation, and the development of your individual movement. Spots are limited.
